Custom Gasket for the Power Generation Industry

At Mercer Gasket & Shim, we operate with extreme agility and are able to rapidly respond to urgent customer requests. We received a compromised stainless steel gasket from a customer in the power generation industry in need of an immediate replacement. Without delay, our technicians reverse engineered the gasket to duplicate its original geometry, which in its complexity included a corrugated profile as well as ribs and holes. They created a virtual 3D model, and translated that into an instruction set for our laser cutting equipment. Having ample stock of 1/8” thick 316 stainless steel on hand and the flexibility to free up equipment resources to handle the job, we shaped the gasket to its finished dimensions of 15” OD/12” ID and within ±.002” dimensional tolerances.
In addition to forming the gasket, we executed a Positive Material Identification (PMI) study to establish the composition of the steel and report the specific quantities of its constituent elements, a necessary requirement for sealing elements used in the power generation industry.
Our speed and flexibility put the replacement gasket in our customer’s hands in less than 24 hours, exceeding their expectations for expediting this complex custom order.
